The Influence of the Holy Spirit vol 2
"We may love to say many things, but if these are not uttered in the Holy Spirit it is better to say nothing. The flesh can conjure up many plans and methods and be full of expectations. The righteousness of the flesh is as abhorrent as its sin we must always maintain God's view of the flesh." - Watchman Nee
"God commands us to be filled with the Spirit, and if we are not filled, it is because we are living beneath our privileges." - Dwight L. Moody
God’s Holy Spirit in us, as Christians, is our greatest gift from God. When we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit we receive the gift and the giver, because the gift is the giver. The Holy Spirit is our unity with God, our source of communication from God, and the guarantee that we are His children.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of
God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you
received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit
Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if
children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we
suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (Rom 8:14-17)
The Holy
Spirit is the Spirit of Love. And hope does not disappoint us, because
God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has
given us. (Rom 5:5)
When we walk
in obedience to the Holy Spirit we experience inner love, joy and peace. But
the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those
who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we
live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25)
God is
pouring out His Holy Spirit. “But this is what was spoken by the
prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I
will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall
prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams.
And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those
days; And they shall prophesy. (Acts 2:16-18)
The Holy
Spirit is promised to those who receive Jesus Christ as savior. Then
Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name
of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of
the Holy Spirit. “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all
who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38-39)
The Holy
Spirit is promised to those who ask. “If you then, being evil, know how
to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father
give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13)
The only
limitation to God’s Holy Spirit in you, is you. For the one whom God
has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. (John
3:34)
The Holy
Spirit produces rivers of liquid life inside you. On the last day, that
great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts,
let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has
said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke
concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy
Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:37-39)
The Holy
Spirit is given to you so that you can be a blessing to others. (1stCor. 12:7)
But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:
…..(1stCor. 12:11) But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing
to each one individually as He wills.
Walking in the blessings of God and the fullness of His Spirit.
1. (Matthew
5:3-10 NKJV) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. The person who is a spiritual beggar seeking to be continually filled
with more of God’s Holy Spirit. (Luke 11:13 NKJV) “If you then, being evil,
know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly
Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Isaiah 44:3 NKJV) For I
will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will
pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;
2. {4} Blessed
are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. They that share the suffering
of others and thereby also share in the comforting of the Holy Spirit with
them. (Ecclesiastes 7:4 NIV) The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure. (Isaiah 61:1-3 NKJV) “The
Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach
good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim
liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
{2} To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of
our God; To comfort all who mourn, {3} To console those who mourn in Zion, To
give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise
for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.”
3. {5} Blessed
are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth. They that through humility open
the door of their hearts to God and man. (Isaiah 57:15 NKJV) For thus says the
High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the
high and holy place, With him who has a contrite and humble spirit, To revive
the spirit of the humble, And to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
4. {6} Blessed
are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
They that walk in obedience to God being led by His Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:4
NKJV) that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do
not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5. {7} Blessed
are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy. They that allow God’s compassion
to flow through them touching others and bringing glory to God. (Ephesians 3:19
NKJV) to know (experience) the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you
may be filled with all the fullness of God.
6. {8} Blessed
are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. They that clean things out of
their hearts to make room for more of God’s Holy Spirit. (Psalms 51:10-12 NKJV)
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. {11}
Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from
me. {12} Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your
generous Spirit.
7. {9} Blessed
are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God. They that help
others attain unity with God; and thus help build unity in the body of Christ.
(2 Corinthians 5:18 NKJV) Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to
Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
There are seven important promises that Christians can count on
receiving from the Holy Spirit.
1. The Holy Spirit shall remain with you
forever
2. The Holy Spirit gives you wisdom
3. The Holy Spirit gives you understanding
4. The Holy Spirit gives you counsel
5. The Holy Spirit gives you power (faith)
6. The Holy Spirit gives you knowledge
7. The Holy Spirit gives you delight in the fear of the Lord
2. The Holy Spirit gives you wisdom
3. The Holy Spirit gives you understanding
4. The Holy Spirit gives you counsel
5. The Holy Spirit gives you power (faith)
6. The Holy Spirit gives you knowledge
7. The Holy Spirit gives you delight in the fear of the Lord
(Isaiah
11:1-4 NKJV) There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, And a Branch
shall grow out of his roots. {2} The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him,
The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and power, The
Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. {3} His delight is in the fear
of the LORD, And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, Nor decide by the
hearing of His ears; {4} But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And
decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with
the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.
The Spirit of
the LORD shall rest upon Him
Shall descend on Him, and remain with Him
Shall descend on Him, and remain with Him
(John
14:16-17 NKJV) “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another
Helper, that He may abide with you forever; {17} “the Spirit of truth, whom the
world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know
Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
(Ephesians
1:13-14 NIV) And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of
truth, the Gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him
with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, {14} who is a deposit guaranteeing our
inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession–to the
praise of his glory. (Romans 11:29 NKJV) For the gifts and the calling of God
are irrevocable.

The Spirit of wisdom and understanding

(1stCorinthians 12:8) for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit…
·
Understanding – Discernment, the ability to separate and judge
righteously truth from falsehood, and good from evil. To comprehend, have
insight, perception, and the ability to use information wisely. Understanding –

Wisdom and
understanding are both needed in all types of work and ministry for it to be
successful. Through wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is
established; (Proverbs 24:3) Wisdom is a creative idea, an insight; but
understanding is needed to accomplish the goal. Wisdom may see hidden
information, but understanding knows why, and how to deal with the information.
(Proverbs
2:1-6 NKJV) My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within
you, {2} So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to
understanding; {3} Yes, if you cry out for discernment (understanding), And
lift up your voice for understanding, {4} If you seek her as silver, And search
for her as for hidden treasures; {5} Then you will understand the fear of the
LORD, And find the knowledge of God. {6} For the LORD gives wisdom; From His
mouth come knowledge and understanding;
(Exodus
31:3-4 NKJV) “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in
understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, {4} “to design
artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,
(Psalms 51:6
NKJV) Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You
will make me to know wisdom.
(Psalms
111:10 NKJV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good
understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures
forever.
(Proverbs
9:10 KJV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of
the holy (sacred) is understanding.
(Proverbs
3:5-6 NKJV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own
understanding; {6} In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your
paths.
(Proverbs
28:5 NKJV) Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the LORD
understand all.
The Spirit of counsel and power
·
Counsel: advice,
plan, advisement, counsel, purpose. (1stCorinthians 12:10) … to another
prophecy,
·
Might: force,
valor, victory, mastery, might, power, strength. (1st Corinthians 12:9-10) to
another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same
Spirit, to another the working of miracles,…
Counsel and
power go together because power is faith, and faith comes by hearing a word
from God through the Holy Spirit. The just shall live by faith because when
they receive a word from God through the Holy Spirit they obey and produce
fruit that glorifies God.
(John
16:12-13 NKJV) “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear
them now. {13} “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide
you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He
hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
(1 John 2:27
NKJV) But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you
do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you
concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught
you, you will abide in Him.
(Micah 3:8
NIV) But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the LORD, and
with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his
sin.
(Acts 1:8
NKJV) “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and
you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to
the end of the earth.”
(2 Timothy
1:7 NKJV) For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and
of a sound mind. (self-discipline)
(1
Corinthians 2:3-5 NIV) I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much
trembling. {4} My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive
words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, {5} so that your faith
might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
·
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD
Knowledge: knowledge–of the deep things of God, to perceive. (1
Corinthians 12:8) …to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,
The fear of God is the beginning of the knowledge of God. It is
impossible to know God without having the most awesome trembling respect of
Him. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise
wisdom and instruction. (Prov 1:7)
(Proverbs
17:27 NKJV) He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding
is of a calm spirit.
(Hosea 6:6
NKJV) For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than
burnt offerings.
(Jeremiah
22:16 NLT) He made sure that justice and help were given to the poor and needy,
and everything went well for him. Isn’t that what it means to know me?” asks
the LORD.
(1
Corinthians 2:10-14 NKJV) But God has revealed them to us through His
Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For
what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in
him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the
world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have
been freely given to us by God. {13} These things we also speak, not in words
which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual
things with spiritual. But the natural
man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness
to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
(Ephesians
1:17-19 NKJV) that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may
give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being
enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the
riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His
power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
(Ephesians
3:16-19 NKJV) that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to
be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may
dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in
love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length
and depth and height; to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that
you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
·
His delight is in the fear of the LORD – Fear – yir’ah; fear,
reverence
The
reverential fear of God causes us to perfect holiness in our own lives, knowing
that we will reap what we sow, knowing that God will chastise the children He
loves as a good Father does, helps us to stay close to God. Holiness is
delightful because we then have the joy of a clean heart and right relationship
with our God. Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in
the fear of God. (2 Cor 7:1)
(Proverbs
9:10) “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of
the Holy One is understanding.
(Psalms
25:12-14 NKJV) Who is the man that fears the LORD? Him shall He teach in the
way He chooses. {13} He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants
shall inherit the earth. {14} The secret of the LORD is with those who fear
Him, And He will show them His covenant.
(Proverbs
1:23 NKJV) Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will
make my words known to you.
(Proverbs
14:26-27 NKJV) In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, And His
children will have a place of refuge. {27} The fear of the LORD is a fountain
of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.
(Proverbs
15:33 NKJV) The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor
is humility.
(Proverbs
19:23 NKJV) The fear of the LORD leads to life, And he who has it will abide in
satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil.
(Isaiah 33:6
NKJV) Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, And the
strength of salvation; The fear of the LORD is His treasure.
(Jeremiah
32:40 NKJV) ‘And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not
turn away from doing them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts so that
they will not depart from Me.
(Acts 9:31
NKJV) Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace
and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the
Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.
